Sebeka Gubae

Historically, Sebeka Gubae was established for the first time by the late Patriarch Abune Tewoflos who was ordained as Ethiopian Orthodox patriarch in 1971 (1963 Ethiopian calendar). Abune Tewoflos envisioned sebkeka Gubae as a support group to help with streamlining church administration. Since then, Sebeka Gubae has been instrumental in the administration of church affairs at all Ethiopian Orthodox churches.

Sebeka Gubae at the ODKSKM0TC has been serving the church since the church’s inception. The Sebeka Gubae has eleven members including the church administrator Komos Aba Teklehaimanot. Three individuals take responsibility in the guidance of the other members as well as in the implementation of policies and providing administrative decisions. The other members are assigned tasks as seen fit by the three ranking officers namely, the Chairman, vice chairman, and the Secretary. As such, certain members of the Sebeka Gubae are assigned tasks such as safeguarding the church’s finances and conducting regular audits, as well as overseeing the structural integrity of the church building and recommending repairs when necessary.

In addition, the Sebeka Gubae, constantly reviews what has been accomplished over certain periods of time, and thereby revising its policies, rules, and regulations, as well as responsibilities conferred to the chairman, vice-chairman, and the secretary.
